Welcome to Northeast Dianli University

Northeast Dianli University (NEDU) is one of key universities in Jilin province, China. NEDU was founded in 1949. The university has been under the management model of joint-building by central and local governments since 2000. Its name was changed to Northeast Dianli University on December 2005. With the purpose of training of professionals, scientific researches, social services, cultural inheritance and innovations, NEDU has been searching for the survival by bettering the quality and promoting development by reforms since it was founded. NEDU has made great contribution to the state power industry, especially to northeast power industry and the economic and social development of Jilin province.

The university is one of the first groups of institutions awarding master degrees, and 10 primary discipline programs and 48 secondary discipline programs award master degrees, and 7 engineering fields award Master Degree of Engineering. The university has a doctorate degree program jointly operated with Harbin Institute of Technology and North China Electric Power University since 1992. Approved by the Committee of Academic Degree of the State Council in 2009, the university became one of the first groups of educational development project institutions awarding Doctor Degrees.
NEDU has 4 key advantage subjects and 2 key development subjects of the 12th Five-Year Plan of Jilin Province and 5 the state first class development majors. There are about 17000 full time students, and the rational disciplines layout has been taken shape, which includes 38 undergraduate majors and 7 disciplines: engineering, science, management, liberal arts, law, economics and education.

The campus covers 800,000 square meters including floor space of 490,000 square meters. There are 1 state teaching and experiment center, 10 ministry and provincial key laboratories, research centers including Ministry of Education key laboratory which is constructed jointly with Jilin Province and Ministry of Education and Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center, and 1 the State professional skill training institution. The University’s Power Transmission and Transformation Operation Center has the only real 66/220 KV training transformer substation among domestic higher colleges and universities. There are 34 on-campus and off-campus teaching practice bases. The university is one of demonstration bases for university students’ innovation and practice in Jilin Province, one of state level education bases for university students’ cultural quality, one of state level training and scientific research bases for social sports talents,

There is 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; there are 2 state-level middle-aged and young experts with special contributions, 3 state-level first group candidates for “New Century Bai-Qian-Wan Talented Personnel Project”,1 state-level outstanding technical professionals, 33 people who share the Government Special Allowance, 1 the State level Great Teacher, 4 Jilin Province level great teacher, 4 Jilin Province outstanding experts, 1 provincial level chief professor; there are 2 “National Outstanding Teaching Team” and 5 “Jilin province Outstanding Teaching Team.

In recent years, 2 teaching achievements won state-level outstanding prize, 19 teaching achievements won province and ministry-level outstanding prizes, 4 courses were chosen as state-level elaborate courses, 75 courses were chosen as province and ministry level elaborate and outstanding courses. Student delegations of the university have won 65 the State level first prizes and second prizes in National Graduate Students Mathematics Pattern Contests, National College Students Mathematics Pattern Contests and National College Students Electronic Design Contests. Students majored in Fashion Design and Performance have made great achievements in all kinds of national and international contests, and once won for many times the highest prizes in the fashion designing, fashion show, and model contests. The University Dragon Boat Team won more than 20 gold awards in national and international dragon boat contests.

In recent years, the university has undertaken 197 vertical state, province and ministry level scientific research projects, 951 lateral scientific research projects and total scientific research funds is 366,988,300 Yuan RMB, and annual funds is 73,976,600 Yuan RMB. The university has won 1 Second level National Science and Technology Progress Award; 27 province and ministry level science and technology progress awards, and 48 patents of invention.

The personnel cultivation system of laying stress on the characteristics of “Yi Shi Liang Chuang” (Ability of Practice, Sense of Creativeness and Spirit of Doing Pioneering Work) has taken shape during its long-term educational development and teaching practice. The education philosophy of “having pursuit, having persistence, having characteristics” has become our NEDU endeavor in the process of educational practice for more than 60 years. NEDU recruits students directly from 30 provinces, municipalities, autonomous region, and the University has won wide praise from the society. Graduates with their solid theory, earnest and diligent style, and courage to overcome hardships and better comprehensive capability have won wide welcome from employers all over the country. The employment rate is steady over 90%. Since the founding of the university, more than 60,000 personnel with various professional skills have been trained and sent to all walks of the life in the country. Many graduates have become famous experts, scholars, and heads of large and medium scale state-owned enterprises and well-know personalities.

The university has actively conducted academic exchange and cooperation with related colleges and universities or scientific research institutions in the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Russia, Republic of Korea, Germany, Ukraine, Canada, and Bulgaria. Since 1998, the university started to enroll foreign students in all subjects. In 2001, approved by the Office of Academic Degree of the State Council, the university began an undergraduate degree program of two majors—Business Management and Business Information System jointly operated with Utah State University.
